The Integrated Information Processing (IIP) Group is headed by Prof. Christoph Studer and is part of the Integrated Systems Laboratory in the Department of Electrical Engineering at ETH Zurich. Our research is at the intersection of wireless communication, machine learning, digital signal processing, numerical optimization, and very-large-scale integration (VLSI) circuit and system design. We jointly consider applications, theory, algorithm development, architecture design, and hardware implementation aspects in order to enable far more efficient solutions than conventional, atomistic design approaches that consider these aspects separately. An illustration of our research approach is as follows:

This image describes the research approach followed by the IIP Group. We first think of an application and what challenge we would like to address. Then, we develop the mathematical theory and algorithms to solve the issue. The next step is the architecture design, followed by the hardware implementation, which attest the efficiency and correctness of the proposed solution.

We are also dedicated to educating the next generation of engineers and scientists by offering a range of courses in digital integrated circuit design and electronics, and we supervise student projects in all of our research areas.
Please visit our education page for more details and available student projects.

Please visit our open positions page if you are interested in joining our group.
