The paper "Universal MIMO Jammer Mitigation via Secret Temporal Subspace Embeddings", authored by Gian Marti and Prof. Christoph Studer, has received the second place at the Student Paper Contest at Asilomar 2023!

Spatial filtering via MIMO processing is an effective way of mitigating jamming attacks. But its usage is complicated by dynamic jammers that modulate their subspace through time-varying beamforming to evade mitigation.

As a remedy, the authors propose MASH (short for MitigAtion via Subspace Hiding): In MASH, the transmitter embeds its transmit signal (using a linear time-domain transform) in a secret subspace and the receiver raises the received signal from that subspace using the reciprocal transform. In doing so, the receiver provably transforms ANY jammer into an easy-to-mitigate barrage jammer, i.e., into a jammer that transmits continuously and with a stationary signature. A preprint of the paper is available on external page arXiv.
