Channel charting enables the extraction of pseudo position of mobile users solely by processing channel state information (CSI) using dimensionality reduction techniques.

Channel charting is a recently proposed framework that applies dimensionality reduction to channel state information (CSI) in wireless systems with the goal of extracting pseudo-position of mobile users in a self-supervised manner. This IEEE Communications Magazine survey article discusses the principles of channel charting and presents an overview of recent algorithmic developments, experimental results, and future developments.

The paper has been co-authored by Dr. Paul Ferrand (SoundHound Inc), Prof. Maxime Guillaud (INRIA), Prof. Olav Tirkkonen (Aalto University), and Prof. Christoph Studer. The paper is available on external page arXiv as well as behind the external page IEEExplore paywall. A collection of papers, code, presentations, and datasets on channel charting is available on the external page Channel Charting Resources website.
