The Integrated Information Processing (IIP) Group at ETH Zurich successfully launched a full-stack 5G vRAN system built upon the external pageNVIDIA Aerial Research Cloud (ARC). ARC is standard compliant and fully software-defined, which enables rapid prototyping and over-the-air validation of novel baseband algorithms. While wireless communications research typically relies on system simulations, only experiments with a real-world 5G network can confirm the true viability and efficacy of machine learning (ML)-assisted baseband algorithms for future 6G wireless systems. Our envisioned research will focus on ML-assisted iterative MIMO detection and decoding, and on global navigation satellite system (GNSS)-free positioning using self-supervised channel charting.
